Bunyarra
Bunyarra fruit are exceptionally large, frequently producing fruit exceeding 50 grams in size during spring.
The skin is bright red in colour and glossy, resulting in very attractive fruit,
this appearance is maintained throughout the fruiting season.
Flesh is medium red throughout and is similar in firmness to Adina,
Kiewa and Tallara. Fruit are uniformly conic shaped, with no shape and
little size variation between primaries and secondaries. Tertiary and lower
order fruit are rarely present, this is achieved by a generic trait, which limits flower
production to primary and secondary flowers only on each truss.
While limiting productivity, this characteristic allows very high pack out percentages.
Bunyarra has shown moderate resistance to rain damage and field resistance to Powdery Mildew.
Grower trials over six years indicate Bunyarra will stand up well throughout the marketing process,
and a combination of moderate acid, very high sugar and moderate aroma will produce fruit
which will be highly sought after by consumers. Lower production levels indicate that
Bunyarra is of interest only to a specialty market where the fruit is able to command a high price.
